200/M Ford Consul Saloon

I can just imagine the conversation around a 1955 Corgi Toy board room table:

“Ok, so this is going to be really exciting! We launch our first model! So, Bernard, what’s it to be?”

“A Ford. Ford Consul, Sir.”

“OK. Er.. And what colour…?”

“Pale beige, Sir.”

This wasn’t such a silly move, though, as it sounds. This was the grim late Fifties and that’s the colour cars were then. They were also the sort of cars that children’s Dads might be driving if they had one. So there was a sort of natural desire to own a miniature version of it.

I know because I had a pale brown Dinky A30 and the two-tone blue A40 that I had to paint red. No-one told me there might have been a red one available!
